Her work has been exhibited internationally in Egypt, Tunisia, and Canada, including exhibitions with Townhouse Gallery Cairo, Darb 1718, Chouftouhonna International Feminist Art Festival, and LensCulture Portrait Awards.
Her practice combines expressive figurative painting with themes of migration, emotional memory, social displacement, gender, and identity. Alongside her visual art practice, Mokhtar has worked within community-based healing.
Miral Mokhtar is a contemporary figurative expressionist and mixed media artist based in Toronto, Canada. Working across acrylic, watercolour, collage, ink, thread, and line work, her practice explores identity, silence, migration, psychological fragmentation, and diasporic experience through emotionally charged figurative environments.
Drawing from lived experiences across Egypt, North Africa, and Canada, Mokhtar investigates displacement, gender, memory, and cultural inheritance through layered symbolic imagery and expressive mark-making. Egyptian iconography, Arabic calligraphy, and found text emerge throughout her work as traces of history embedded within the painted surface.
Influenced by parallel studies in psychology, trauma-informed counselling, and community mental health, her paintings examine the tension between visibility and concealment, vulnerability and resilience, intimacy and collective memory.
