About Miral Mokhtar
I make art about what people carry but cannot always show.
I’m Miral Mokhtar, a contemporary artist based in Toronto.
My work explores the human figure through memory, vulnerability, identity, survival, psychological tension, and the pressures that shape us.
Faces and bodies return throughout my practice. I’m interested in the space between what is visible and what is felt between the person we present to the world and everything that may be happening underneath.
I work across painting, drawing, and mixed media, allowing materials, marks, texture, distortion, and accident to become part of the work. I don’t need every image to feel polished or completely resolved. Sometimes an imperfect mark says more than a perfect one.
Alongside my art practice, I study Mental Health and arts education. It deepens art skills and my curiosity about human behaviour, memory, emotion, relationships, identity, and the ways people adapt to what they experience.
I don’t want to tell the viewer exactly what to see.
I want the work to leave enough space for another person to enter it with their own memories, questions, and feelings.
My practice continues to change as I do. I follow curiosity, observation, experimentation, and the things I still don’t fully understand.
Above all, I’m grateful to God for the ability to create, learn, and continue.
Thank you for spending time with my work.
